old gods and new

big bird

when the dust of armies

lay on the land

when the hymns in churches

turn into sand

when the columns of refugees

flow like a river

in the cities of plenty

where homeless shiver

in the houses of parliament

where words are a fashion

to mysterious factories

no jets are on rations…
